A non-profit, registered charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of farmed animals in need on 130 acres of beautiful land just 20 minutes north of Byron Bay, Australia.
***** SPRING/SUMMER 2023 UPDATE *****
We are staring down the barrel of an extremely hot and dry Summer. And along with that comes extreme fire danger.
The animals are now in desperate need of water security, not only for them to drink (they drink 2000 litres every day) but to protect them against bushfires.
We have already seen over 700 hectares engulfed in fire just 12km SE of us this Spring. đ
Prior to the catastrophic flood in February last year (see below), we had adequate water resources. But our major dam was obliterated by the huge volume of rocks that were washed down from the hills in the ferocious wall of water⌠completely destroying our 2 mega litre dam (thatâs 2 million litres!)
And terrifyingly, we have almost lost our other dam as well⌠itâs nearly totally dried up.
On top of this, the animals cannot access water from Crabbes Creek as our âneighbourâ pumps the creek dry before it gets to our land.
So our precious rescue residents need your help NOW!
We urgently need to raise $20,000 to keep the animals safe and healthy:
– $15,000 to have a bore drilled to access the water underground
– $2,000 for an extra water pump and water trough
– $3,000 for a mobile fire fighting unit (we already have a trailer for this)
âźď¸THIS IS NOW AN URGENT & IMMEDIATE NEEDâźď¸
Sanctuary founders and operators, Mama B and Finn, are Black Saturday Bushfire survivors and have lived experience and expertise when it comes to wildfire, but they cannot keep the animals safe without your generous support.
âśď¸ Please help protect the rescue animals this bushfire season. All donations over two dollars a fully tax deductible. And every dollar raised goes directly to the animals as we are a 100% volunteer-run rescue charity. (click on the DONATE button above)
âśď¸ And if youâre not in a position to make a donation, then please buy something through our online shop (see above) and please follow us on social media and SHARE our posts far and wide. You never know who they may reach.
Thank you for taking action to protect the rescue animals and for helping to keep our gates open. đđ

***** NSW FLOOD DISASTERS *****
On 28 February 2022 we were inundated by a catastrophic âonce in a 1000 yearsâ flood.
The 60 metre wide raging torrents that tore through our little slice of paradise washed away our roads, our shelters, our cars, and destroyed our hay store.
Like everyone in our region, we had no electricity, no phone reception or wifi. Being without power at our off-grid sanctuary means that there is no access to running water. And the toilets were also blocked due to the deluge and mudslides making the septic system unoperational.
But with the tireless help of some amazing volunteers, we started to repair and rebuild.
And then the unthinkable happenedâŚ.
Exactly 4 weeks later we were battered, yet again, by a huge amount of very heavy rain and cyclonic winds causing further damage to the land that we are the custodians of and to our infrastructure.
During both floods the Sanctuary was totally cut-off for days.
The huge volume of water caused damage of over $130,000 (this does not include our cars or personal belongings):
– our access into the Sanctuary has been so badly damaged that we currently have no vehicle access in or out
– 2 of our internal roads have washed away cutting off 2 of our paddocks
– 100âs and 100âs of metres of fencing is gone
– shelters have been swept away
– our entire hay store is gone
– feed and water troughs were swept away
– other animal housing is gone
– we have 5 large landslides on the land, creek bank collapses and severe erosion to the remaining roads
– our massive dam is gone âŚ. itâs now full of rocks and rubble!!!!
Unbelievably, all of our precious residents survived both floods. We will forever be grateful for this!
If you would like to help us get back on our feet please consider making a tax deductible donation, buying something from our store, or volunteering. (click on the buttons above)
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
